Tales of the Waikanae Estuary
By Michael (Mik) Peryer

Having retired to the beach beside the Waikanae estuary, builder Mik Peryer has found he enjoys introducing visitors to the birds in his "backyard".

The estuary is host to over sixty species, including godwits that migrate to and from Siberia.

Mik's guided walks have led to talks with hundreds of interested people and groups, the production of a popular booklet and now this richly illustrated, informative and entertaining book.

We have some pieces from Miks magical book for you to taste!

Remarkable Love Story

Read about a truely amazing Love Story...

... between a goose and a swan

Henrietta, the injured black swan, is at least 18 years old and probably nearer twenty, so she hasn't long to live. Thomas the goose has been her mate for some 13 years.

Like all love stories Thomas and Henrietta have had their ups and downs.

Find out more about this unusual pairing and their wonderful relationship in Mik's book

The Black Shag

The Black Shag is the cheeky character of the lagoon - once pinching a flounder out of Mik's set net.

The Little Black Shag is the vandal of the estuary hunting the river in packs of 30 or more.

This marvellous book is available for sale directly through Mik.
